After a very hot start to the season, the Fruitport soccer team finally lost a game.

The Trojans went on the road and dropped a tough 2-0 decision to Holland Christian on Thursday in their second O-K Blue conference matchup of 2023.

Fruitport is now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Holland Christian scored early in the first half on a penalty kick goal. The score remained 1-0 until late in the second half when the Maroons iced the victory with another goal.

Fruitport’s Isaiah Packard

The Trojans had opportunities to score throughout the game but were unable to find the back of the Holland Christian net.

Fruitport goalie Logan Werschem was solid, stopping eight shots. Coach Dan Hazekamp credited Isaiah Packard, Sam Krueger, Braxton Ward and Brady Brown for playing strong games.

“I thought we held up physically in a tough environment,” Hazekamp said. “Holland Christian is a really solid team, and some of the details that we can clean up will help us as we move through the season.”
