The Fruitport boys soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie on Monday with O-K Blue conference opponent Allendale, which is ranked high in the state among Division 2 teams.

The lone Fruitport goal came in the first half when senior Brady Brown converted a penalty kick to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Allendale drew a penalty kick about midway through the second half and converted to tie the score at 1-1.

Fruitport Goalkeeper Logan Werschem made 12 saves to preserve the deadlock.

Fruitport is now 6-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

The tie shows just how tough the O-K Blue Conference is this season, according to Fruitport head coach Dan Hazekamp.

“I was proud of the way we had some players step up and play hard throughout the game,” Hazekamp said. “Isaac Vandermolen, Braxton Ward, Sam Krueger and Logan Werschem had really solid performances.

“The O-K Blue is really tough this year and every game is going to be a battle.”

The Trojans will host Hudsonville Unity Christian in a conference clash on Monday.
