Fruitport’s Tatum Dykstra, Vincent Pollock both stand out in big nighttime cross country race

Fruitport senior runner Tatum Dykstra continued her strong start to the season on Friday by finishing ninth individually out of 222 runners at the 2023 Under the Lights Invite, hosted by Grand Rapids South Christian.

Dykstra, who finished second in the first run of the season, turned in a time of 19:55.90, the best of her varsity career.

Fruitport’s Valerie Pollock also ran well, finishing 18th overall with a time of 20:38.30. Lauren Lee came in 23rd with a mark of 21:04.30.

Tresa Dykstra finished in 68th place for the Trojans and Kaylynn Pavlich was 70th.

The Fruitport girls finished in 11th place in the 15-tean meet with 128 points. Holland Christian won the team event with 27 points.

“All of the girls ran well and most of them ran PR’s (personal records),” said Fruitport Coach Randy Johnson. “All of the girls’ times were far better than they were last year at this time.”

In the boys competition, junior Vincent Pollock was the top Trojan runner, finishing 13th out of 242 runners with a time of 16:48.50, which was also his personal best.

Levi Glynn came in 35th with a mark of 17:45.0 and Levi Bol was 50th with a time of 18:07.60.

Ethan Horan finished 74th for Fruitport while Landon Johnson was 140th.

The Trojans boys finished 12th out of 16 teams with 142 points. Holland Christian came in first with 29 points.
