The Fruitport volleyball team started the season by going 1-3 on Friday and Saturday in the Traverse City West Invitational.

The Trojans lost to Traverse City St. Francis 26-24, 28-26 and Rockford 25-16, 25-7.

Fruitport responded with a 25-19, 28-26 victory over Glen Lake before rounding out the weekend with a 25-13, 25-11 loss to Traverse City Central.

Sadie Haase led the Fruitport team with 31 kills on the weekend while also totaling seven blocks.

Gracelynn Olson had a very strong weekend with 55 assists, 20 digs and four aces while Ashton Olson added nine kills.

Lauren Riedel led the team in digs with 40.

“This was a great growing and learning experience for our core of young players,” said Trojan head coach Nicole Bayle. “I am very proud of the way that we hung in with tough opponents. In the long run, it’s going to be great for our team development.”

Fruitport will compete in Grand Haven’s Battle on the Boardwalk on Friday.
