The Fruitport girls cross country team got off to a roaring start to the season on Saturday, winning the Muskegon Catholic Central Invitational.
The Trojans had three runners finish in the top 10 and six runners in the top 15.
Fruitport finished with 38 points, well ahead of second-place Coopersville, which had 64.
Tatum Dykstra was the top runner for the Trojans, finishing second overall with a time of 20:03.78. Lauren Lee finished fifth with a mark of 21:30.84 and Valerie Pollock was sixth with a time of 21:58.58.
Fruitport’s Treasure Fleese took 11th place, Kaylynn Pavlige was 14th and Tresa Dykstra finished 15th.

The Fruitport boys also did well against some stiff competition, finishing in third place with 75 points. Jenison won the title with 25 points.
Vincent Pollock was the top runner for the Trojans, taking 10th place with a time of 17:50.42.
Levi Bol finished 14th, Landon Johnson was 15th,, Alex Wilber was 17th and Ethan Horan was 19th.
“The girls ran great, winning the meet and all running great times for the first race of the season,” said Fruitport Coach Randy Johnson. “Our two freshmen stepped it up to bring our top five girls in the top 14 runners.
“Our boys also ran well. They placed behind a tough Sparta team and Division 1 Jenison. All the boys ran better times than they did the year before on the same course.”
