The young Fruitport boys tennis team got off to a tough start to the 2023 season on Thursday, falling 8-0 to Western Michigan Christian.
While the Trojans didn’t win any matches, they did show potential, winning a total of 22 games.
The most success came in singles, where Fruitport took 12 games.
The most competitive match came at No. 4 singles, where Fruitport’s Shane Brosnan dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to WMC’s Samuel Kuiper.
The Trojans won 10 games in doubles. The best competition came at No. 4 doubles, where Owen Tromp and Kaleb Brege fell to WMC’s Noah VanWoerkum and Cole Huisinga 6-3, 6-4.
“With many new players this year there is some experience we lack,” said Fruitport Coach Brad Busscher. “However, there is learning we take from each match and look forward to making some improvements to play better in the next match.”
