The Fruitport boys soccer team kept its early-season hot streak intact on Monday by downing West Michigan Aviation Academy 2-0.

Fruitport improved to 4-0 on the season.

The game was scoreless at halftime, then the Trojans took control in the final 40 minutes.

Brady Brown crossed the ball to Davis Johnson, who scored the Trojans’ first goal. Brown had another assist later in the game when he got the ball to Taylen Acocks, who found the back of the net.

Fruitport outshot its opponent 16-4. Goalie Logan Werschem had four saves and earned the shutout.

Trojan coach Coach Dan Hazekamp credited Sam Krueger, Braxton Ward, Brady Brown and Isaiah Packard with tremendous play on the back line and Jaxon Stone for solid play in the midfield.

“I thought this may have been our most complete effort thus far,” Hazekamp said. “We struggled to find the net at times, but we controlled the pace of play and generated a lot of opportunities. It was a good step forward.”

The Trojans will visit Whitehall on Wednesday.
