MUSKEGON – After a very successful road trip over the past week, the Muskegon Clippers are headed back to Marsh Field on Wednesday with a ton of momentum for the stretch run of the regular season.

The Clippers, winners of 9 of their last 10 games, will begin a rather odd four-game series on Tuesday against the Royal Oak Leprechauns.

The teams will play a doubleheader in Royal Oak on Tuesday, return home for one game at Muskegon’s Marsh Field on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., then will return to Royal Oak for the final game on Thursday.

The Clippers will then host the Sandusky Ice Haulers for three games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Friday and Saturday games start at 7:05 p.m. while the Sunday game starts at 4:05 p.m.

Clippers pitcher Jack Decker

The homestand will come on the heels of another dominant series sweep for the Clippers, who took four games from the division rival Jet Box Baseball Club over the weekend.

Muskegon started the series with a 7-4 victory on Friday. The Clippers trailed 1-0 through five innings, then scored six runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh. Brandon Scheurer had two hits and Jabin Bates knocked in two runs.

The Clippers also won the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, 7-1. Pitcher Dan Gutierrez pitched a seven-inning complete game while scattering three hits and striking out nine. Donovan Rinehart let the offense with two hits and three RBIs.

Muskegon kept things rolling with a 5-2 win over Jet Box on Saturday. Pitcher Jack Decker was outstanding, tossing eight innings of one-hit baseball while piling up 14 strikeouts. Aaron Piasecki led the offense with three hits.

Muskegon’s Aaron Piasecki

The Clippers completed the series sweep with an 8-6 victory on Sunday. They used a five-run first inning to take early control, then hung on for the victory. Bates, Piasecki, Brett Stanley and Stoney Smith head had two hits. Smith knocked in three runs while Bates had two RBIs.

The four wins left the Clippers with a pretty amazing 21-3 record, good for first place in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League’s North Division. The second-place Lima Locos are 18-7.

The Clippers now head in the final phase of the regular season, with 14 games remaining on the schedule. Nine of those games will be at home, including an important four-game series against the Locos (back-to-back doubleheaders) on July 22-23, the final two days of the regular season.

The top two teams in both the North and South divisions will qualify for the league playoffs. The Clippers, who have never been to the GLSCL playoffs, seem to be a solid bet to grab one of the two top spots in the division.
