Clippers split a doubleheader with Lima Locos in a battle of the North Division’s two top teams

After losing the first game of their key doubleheader against the Lima Locos on Tuesday, the Muskegon Clippers bounced back with an important 2-0 victory in the nightcap.

The two top teams in the Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League will finish their three-game series on Wednesday in Ohio.

The Clippers lost the first game 5-3 while only managing three hits.

A three-run third inning made the difference for the Locos, who also scored once in the third inning and once in the sixth.

The Clippers scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the seventh, but could get no closer.

Muskegon bounced back in Game 2 with a soutout win to even up the day.

The Clippers scored both of their runs in the third inning, Danny Passinault reached base on a fielder’s choice play then scored on a single by Aaron Piasecki. Stoney Smith singled and scored on a groundout.

There hero of the day was Clippers pitcher DJ Thompson, who tossed a seven-inning complete game, allowing two hits while strikeout out eight and walking only one.
