After losing the first game on the mound, Brooklyn Russell pitched a complete-game win, scattering six hits while striking out seven.

Spring Lake won the first game 14-4. Ash Olson led Fruitport with two hits and also had a strong game in the field.

“I was very proud of our girls tonight,” said Fruitport Coach Bob Dorman. “It would have been easy for them to hang their heads after Game 1 and just pack it up, but they showed their true character and didn’t quit. They came out and had a big third inning, showing exactly how explosive we can be.

“I complimented them after the game for not giving up and having the will to continue to progress and keep moving forward.”
