Five members of the Fruitport girls track team will be competing in the Division 2 state finals after great performances in regionals at Allendale High School on Thursday.
Sophomore Julia Smith finished in second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.96. She finished behind Hamilton’s Jeralyn Hoppes, who had a winning time of 16.15.
Junior Tatum Dykstra finished second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:23.43. She finished behind Spring Lake’s Lily Parker, who had a winning time of 5:21.54.
Fruitport’s 4×800-meter relay team, comprised of Tatum Dykstra, Tresa Dykstra, Valerie Pollock and Lauren Lee, also took second place with a time of 10:19.48. They finished behind first-place Spring Lake, which turned in a time of 9:59.19.
The Division 2 state finals are scheduled for June 3 at Forest Hills Eastern High School.
No members of the Fruitport boys team qualified for the state finals.
The Trojans’ best performance at regionals came from the 4×800-meter relay team, comprised of Levi Bol, Ryder Merkins, Johnathon McMullin and Vincent Pollock, which finished in eighth place. The four members of the relay team were regional medalists.
