Grace Sweet is headed to the state tennis finals.

Fruitport’s No. 1 singles player kept her great season alive by winning three matches and capturing the championship at a Division 3 regional tournament in Holland.

Sweet defeated Whitehall 6-1, 6-2, Hudsonville Unity Christian 6-0, 6-3 and Ludington 6-0, 6-0 to nail down the championship.

The regional title is the third major championship for Sweet in recent weeks. She also won the No. 1 singles title at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament and the O-K Blue conference tournament.

Fruitport’s Grace Sweet, who won a regional title and will play in the Division 3 state tennis finals.

Sweet is now 23-1 on the season and will compete with the best players in the state at the D3 state finals in Ann Arbor on June 3.

“This is the seventh year in a row that Fruitport tennis will be represented at the state finals as we continue to add to this amazing streak,” said Fruitport tennis coach Brad Busscher.

The Trojans finished fourth as a team at the regional tournament and did not qualify for the state finals as a group.

Rachel Hines (No. 2 singles) advanced to the semifinal round before being eliminated. Lynnea Olson and Aubre Johnson (No. 1 doubles) and Alyssa Ballard and Lena Saffell (No. 4 doubles) posted one victory at the tournament.
