Fruitport’s Grace Sweet kept her hot streak going last week by winning the No. 1 singles championship at the O-K Blue conference championship tournament.

After winning a city tournament championship on Wednesday, Sweet added the conference title on Friday by posting a 2-0 record.

She defeated Hudsonville Unity Christian’s Kylie Schelhaas 6-0, 6-0 and Holland Christian’s Bria Lampen 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

All of the Fruitport singles players had a good day at the tournament by posting winning records.

Rachel Hines finished in third place at No. 2 singles by winning two of three matches, including a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 victory over Grand Rapids West Catholic’s Agata Stasiuk.

Audra Peterson was 2-1 at No. 3 singles and finished in fifth place in her flight. Nanami Hoshino was 2-1 at No. 4 singles and also finished fifth.

Overall the Trojans finished in seventh place in the team standings with 10 points. Holland Christian took first place with 16.

The Trojans will now head to the postseason and compete in Division 2 regionals later this week.

“Overall we improved our scores with some of our opponents from earlier in the season,” said Fruitport Coach Brad Busscher. “I believe we are playing some of our best tennis as a team right now and I look forward to our regional matchups.”
