The Fruitport softball team has been playing well lately, but the Trojans’ momentum was stalled a bit on Thursday in a pair of losses to Forest Hills Eastern.

Fruitport lost the opener 11-3. The Trojans did manage eight hits in the game, with Tatum Anderson going 3-for-3 at the plate.

The second game was much closer, but Fruitport fell 9-6. The Trojans had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh (and final) inning but could not rally.

Fruitport’s Tatum Anderson, who had three hits in Game 1.

Fruitport totaled nine hits, with Olive Staal and Madyson Prout each collecting two for the Trojans.

Prout also pitched a complete game, scattering 11 hits with one strikeout.

Fruitport’s Madyson Prout, who had two hits and pitched her first complete game in the nightcap.

“I was very happy for Maddy Proutt, who pitched her first varsity complete game,” said Fruitport Coach Bob Dorman. “I was only asking a couple innings out of her, but she did well. We have nine ground ball outs in that game, which is huge for us.

“I was very pleased with how we finished. We gave ourselves a chance with baserunners on in the bottom of the seventh. We went out fighting.”
