The Fruitport girls soccer team opened the O-K Blue conference tournament on Monday with a 4-1 loss to Grand Rapids West Catholic.

West Catholic jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half before Fruitport’s Alexa Hanson-Wilbur found the back of the net, leaving the score 3-1 at the break. Mallory Smith assisted on the goal.

West Catholic scored the only goal of the second half.

“In the second half we tried to make some adjustments offensively and defensively that started to take shape,” said Fruitport Coach Chris Belasco. “Some new attacking patterns and defensive lineup changes limited chances for West Catholic.”

Fruitport, now 5-8-2, will host Allendale in another conference tournament game on Wednesday.
