High school golf teams usually play in tournaments, and rarely get the chance to go head-to-head with one other school.

But the Fruitport boys golf team had that opportunity on Tuesday, facing off against Muskegon Catholic Central at Muskegon Country Club.

The format fit the Trojans well and they posted a victory, shooting an overall team score of 179 while MCC shot a 207.

Andres Cribley-Cotto and Hayden Winskas paced Fruitport, each shooting a 44. They both finished just behind MCC’s Q Lorenz, who led all golfers with a round of 43.

Fruitport’s Ryan Sloan was right behind the leaders with a 45 round, followed by Chase Sullivan (46) and Noah Packard and Caleb Slager (each shooting a 54).

“It is nice to get any kind of win in golf,” said Fruitport Coach Aaron Gregory. “It was fun to have a dual match with another local school. All four of our seniors played, which made it a special night.”

The Trojans will compete in the O-K Blue conference championship tournament on Monday, then regionals the following week.
