The Fruitport baseball team won the rubber game of its final conference series of the year on Thursday, 11-2 over Holland Christian.
Holland Christian took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then the Trojans took control with four runs in the fourth.
Cody Nash knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice, Christian Kennedy knocked in another with a single, and Andrew Spyke added a two-run single.
Fruitport scored four more runs in the sixth inning, featuring an RBI double by Tommy Anderson.
Avery Lambers got the win on the mound, going three innings while scattering five hits, striking out two and walking none.
Fruitport totaled 14 hits in the game, with Lambers, Anderson, Kennedy, Ryan Bosch and Braxton Ward collected two apiece. The Trojans were perfect in the field with no errors.
“We played really well today as a whole,” said Fruitport Coach Nick Reed. “It was probably our most complete game this season. We strung together hits and got two-out runs. We’ve been pitching well and now the hitting is coming along. Now we are looking for consistency game-to-game.”
Fruitport will end the regular season with a doubleheader at Montabella on Saturday and a home game against Sparta on Tuesday.
The Trojans will compete in the Division 2 district tournament on Saturday, June 3 at Oakridge High School. They will play Whitehall at noon, with the winner advancing to the championship game later that afternoon.
