Fruitport’s Christian Kennedy had a hot bat on Thursday, going 5-for-5 at the plate and knocking in two runs to help the Trojans defeat Grand Rapids West Catholic 10-3 in the rubber game of an O-K Blue conference series.
Kennedy singled in the first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
He was also great on the mound, scattering four hits over six innings with four strikeouts to collect the win.
West Catholic jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Ryer Snow double.
Fruitport pulled ahead for good in the third inning with three runs. Jax Flynn knocked in a run with a double while Ryan Bosch knocked in two more with a single.
[1]The Trojans added four more runs in the seventh inning, with Kennedy, Bosch and Braxton Ward each knocking in runs.
Fruitport, which has been spotty at the plate for most of the season, piled up 15 hits in the game. Ward, Bosch, Andrew Spyke and Brady French also had multiple hits.
Fruitport won the three-game series between the teams with two wins.
“We came ready to hit today,” said Fruitport coach Nick Reed. “Our approach at the plate continues to get better and it showed today. We got a little bit of confidence and we started to roll.
“Christian Kennedy did a nice job battling for us on the mound and had a good day at the plate. Hitting is contagious and today it seemed like everyone caught it.”
The Trojans are now 9-11 overall on the season and 5-9 in conference play.
