The Fruitport track teams hosted a bunch of great opponents on Friday at the Fruitport Invitational in gorgeous summer-like weather.

The Trojans finished in eighth place in the nine-team field in both the boys and girls standings. Whitehall won the team championship in the boys competition while Berrien Springs took first place in the girls competition.

Several Fruitport athletes had strong performances in their respective events.

Junior Nathan Carlisle finished third in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 2 inches.

Senior Payton Flores came in fourth place in discus with a personal record throw of 122 feet, 1.25 inches. He was eighth in shot put with a throw of 38 feet,10.25 inches.

Senior Andrew Fielstra finished in fifth place in shot put with a personal record of 40 feet, 9.5 inches.

Junior Pierce Jolman set a personal record with a time of 44.13 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles, giving him a sixth-place finish.

Senior Kaiden Bell finished seventh in discus with a personal record throw on 116 feet, 2.75 inches.

Junior Alex Wilber took eighth place in the pole vault, clearing nine feet.

Sophomore Vincent Pollock came in eighth in the 3,200-meter run with a personal record of 10:52.98.

Freshman Enzo Aggoune finished in eighth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.32.

In the girls competition, Fruitport’s Tresa Dykstra had the best performance on her team with a second-place finish (1:06.14) in the 400-meter dash.

Tatum Dykstra finished in sixth place in the 1,600-meter run and 100-meter hurdles. Fruitport’s Lauren Lee finished sixth in the 800-meter run.

Fruitport’s 1,600-meter relay team finished fourth.

“The Trojan Invitational was a great event,” said Fruitport track head coach Tim McKeeby. “Multiple athletes, coaches and spectators said it was the most fun and exciting track meet that they’ve participated in.

“Our track and field athletes deserve to compete with the best and at a great meet. The competition was tough, but Trojan track ran hard. Congratulations to all of our athletes who placed.”
