The Fruitport girls soccer team broke a two-game losing streak with a big 4-2 victory over Coopersville on Friday evening.

The Trojans led 2-1 at halftime, following goals by Mallory Smith (assisted by Alexa Hansen-Wilbur) and Emerson VerMerris.

Smith scored again in the second half, assisted by Courtney Mayette, then Mikalya Belascoi scored the final game of the game for Fruitport.

Trojan defenders Lauren Riedel, Kayla Kolberg, Joslyn Baldwin and Kenzie Pate were credited for holding Coopersville to just six shots on goal.

“The team stepped up against Coopersville,” said Fruitport Coach Chris Belasco. “We played through some adversity. We were trying out some new attacking formations and tactics. I was very proud of the girls’ willingness to try something new and their ability to accomplish the goals they set out for themselves.”

The Trojans, now 4-2 overall and 2-1 in O-K Blue conference play, will visit Spring Lake for a big rivalry game on Monday.
