The Fruitport boys golf team is inching closer to its goal of being competitive in the tough O-K Blue conference.

Chase Sullivan and Ryan Sloan both shot a 41 on Monday, tying for 12th place in the individual standings in a conference meet at Diamond Springs Golf Course.

They were six shots behind the individual medalist, Owen Kosteski of Grand Rapids West Catholic, who shot a one-under-par 35. Overall the Trojans shot a team score of 173. Spring Lake won the event with a score of 157.

Fruitport’s Macen Benderman shot a 43 to finish 23rd overall. Tyler Carlson shot a 48 for the Trojans, followed by Hayden Winskas (49) and Cole Woodard (53).

Fruitport Coach Aaron Gregory said his team is consistently getting several players shooting well on any given day. Now the Trojans just need more of them to do so on a regular basis.

“Our team collectively played well today,” Gregory said. “We are consistently having two or three players shoot well each match. I look forward to the day we have four players play well on the same day.

“The O-K Blue conference is deep enough in golf that if you don’t have four players score well on the same day you will definitely not finish in the top three at any event.”
