The Fruitport softball team got an exciting win on Friday, beating an always good Holton squad 9-5 in extra innings in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader.
The game was tied 4-4 in the top of the eighth inning when Olive Staal drew an RBI walk, Maddie Prout hit a two-out single to knock in a run, Tatum Anderson got a hit and knocked in a run, Teagan Schultz walked and Brooklyn Russell knocked home another run.
Russell pitched the victory, scattering three hits over eight innings while striking out two.
The win ended a frustrating seven-game losing streak for Fruitport.
The Trojans had a close call in the first game of the doubleheader, falling to Holton 1-0.
Pitcher Kadence Springstead had a strong outing for the Trojans, scattering three hits and striking out four batters in 6 2/3 innings. Springstead and Teagen Schults each had single hits for Fruitport.
The Trojans are now 2-7 on the season. They will return to action on Tuesday when they host Coopersville in an O-K Blue conference doubleheader.
