Fruitport girls soccer team falls to Hudsonville Unity Christian in O-K Blue conference action

After getting off to a great start this season, the Fruitport girls soccer team has hit a bump in the road with two straight losses.

The Trojans had their perfect record spoiled with a shutout loss to a very good Mona Shores team on Saturday, then dropped a 9-1 decision to Hudsonville Unity Christian on Monday in O-K Blue Conference play.

Unity Christian scored first, Fruitport’s Mallory Smith answered midway through the first half, but the Eagles led 3-1 at halftime and rolled from there.

Alexa Hanson-Wilbur had an assist for the Trojans while goalkeeper Riley Kettel made 12 saves.

“Our defensive line was under pressure all game,” said Fruitport Coach Chris Belasco. “Lauren Riedel and Kenzie Pate stepped up bit for the Trojans. It was a very cold, physical game.”

The Trojans are now 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. They will return to action at home on Wednesday against Coopersville. [2]
