The Fruitport boys track team is having a rebuilding season of sorts, with mixed results in a lot of events, but the team’s distance runners are definitely a strength.

That showed again on Thursday in an O-K Blue conference meet against Coopersville.

The Trojans swept all three spots in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs and took first place in the 800-meter run.

In the 1,600, Alex Wilber took first place with a personal record of 5 minutes, 7.92 seconds. Levi Glynn took second place and Landon Johnson finished third.

In the 3,200, Vincent Pollock finished first, Wilber took second and Evan Butler placed third.

Pollack also finished first in the 800 with a personal record time of 2 minutes,12.27 seconds.

The Trojans also claimed first place in three other events, despite losing the overall competition to the Broncos 78-59.

Levi Bol, Ryder Merkins, Ethan Horan and Pollock won the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 9 minutes, 11.57 seconds.

Fruitport’s Pierce Jolman

Nathan Carlisle won the long jump competition with a personal best mark of 19 feet, 5 inches.

Pierce Jolman took first place in the 300-meter hurdles.

“The O-K Blue is a tough division in almost every sport and track is no different,” said Fruitport boys coach Tim McKeeby. “Trojan Track can compete and we demonstrated that today. We have amazing athletes who seek to set personal records each time they run.

“Our long distance team is very strong. Our sprinters and hurdlers excel at getting better each time they run. Our field team is top notch. The credit belongs to our athletes – they know what it means to run like a Trojan.”

In the girls competition, Fruitport’s Julia Smith had a great day, winning the 100 and 300-meter hurdles and taking second place in the long jump.

Fruitport lost the girls meet by a score of 100-31.
