The Whitehall girls basketball program won a Division 2 district title for the first time since 2005 with a 36-31 victory over Montague on Friday night.

Whitehall held a slim 7-5 lead after one quarter before Montague bounced back to take a 16-14 halftime lead.

The Vikings outscored Montague 14-8 in the third quarter to regain the lead at 28-24.

In the fourth, Whitehall outscored Montague 8-7 to take home the victory.

Montague which finishes the season 16-8 was led by Emma Peterson with nine points, three assists and three rebounds while Lauren Smith added six points and three steals.

The Vikings will play either Saginaw Arthur Hill or Freeland at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Division 2 regional semifinals at Frankenmuth.
