Fruitport Calvary Christian boys basketball team ends season with loss to Lansing Christian in regionals

The Fruitport Calvary Christian boys basketball team’s season came to an end on Monday with a 51-40 loss to Lansing Christian in a Division 4 regional semifinal game at Fowler High School.

The Eagles had an early 10-6 lead, but Lansing Christian had a 17-8 advantage over the rest of the first half and led 25-19 at the break.

Fruitport Calvary could not make up the difference in the second half. The Eagles were hurt by 9-for-39 shotting inside the paint and only made 4 of 8 free throws.

Gabe VanBaale had 13 points for Fruitport Calvary while Bradley Richards had 11 points and 17 rebounds.

The Eagles finished with a 15-10 record, the third highest win total in school history, set a single-game scoring record with 90 points against Saugatuck, and won their first ever boys district championship.

The best part is that Fruitport Calvary had no seniors, so the entire squad should be back to build on its success next season.

“It was a real tough night for us on offense to miss 31 shots in the paint and only shoot three shooting fouls,” said Eagles Coach Brad Richards.  “It’s no fun to lose, but as time goes on we’ll reflect very positively on the season.”    [1]
