Rookie forward Sacha Boisvert scored a three-goal hat trick on Friday, leading the Muskegon Lumberjacks to a 7-3 road victory over the Madison Capitols.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period, then the Jacks took control with three goals in both the second and third periods.

Boisvert’s performance brought him to 15 goals on the season.

It was a big night for rookies all the way around, with first-year players Ty Henricks, Cody Croal, Matvei Gridin and Easton Young scoring the other goals for Muskegon.

The Lumberjacks improved to 18-19-2 on the season while Madison fell to 9-28-2. The two teams will battle again in Madison on Saturday night.

Boisvert started the scoring with a goal at 5:02 of the first period. Madison’s Tyler Grahme answered at the 18:52 mark.

The Jacks led off the second period with three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. Henricks found the net at the 7:32 mark, Boisvert scored again at 11:20 and Croal notched his 10th goal of the season at 15:48.

Madison’s Jonah Aegerter scored late in the second period, and the Jacks were up 4-2 heading into the third.

The Capitols’ Nathan Lewis scored just 41 seconds into the final period, but the Jacks responded with three game-clinching goals, from Gridin at 1:09, Boisvert at 16:58 and Young, who scored his first goal of the season with about a minute left.

Muskegon goalie Conor Callaghan stopped 27 of 30 shots to get the win. Madison had a 30-28 advantage in shots on goal.
