The Shelby girls basketball team started district play with a big win over Hesperia Monday night in a Division 3 district first round game. The Tigers beat Hesperia 62-27 to open tournament play. 

Shelby took control early, grabbing a 19-6 lead after one quarter. The Tigers led 35-10 at halftime and 53-19 after three quarters. 

Molli Shultz led Shelby with 14 points, while Aubrey Klotz was in double figures with 11. Claire Gowell and Biloxi Lee had nine points each and Kendall Zaverl scored eight for the Tigers. 

Shelby is now 10-13 on the season and moves on to face host Hart (19-3) in the district semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Hesperia finishes the season 1-22. 

DIVISION 1 – GRAND HAVEN 41, MONA SHORES 24

Grand Haven (13-9): No stats submitted. 

Mona Shores (12-11): Ali Phillips 5 points; Addison Fisher 5 points; Maddie Russel 5 points.

Next up: Grand Haven advances to play Muskegon (15-7) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kenowa Hills High School.

DIVISION 2 – FREMONT 46, NEWAYGO 29

Fremont (9-14 overall): Jessica Bennett 16 points; Mia Clemence 9 points; Eliana VandenBerg 6 points. 

Next up: Fremont will face host Montague (15-7) in the district semifinals Wednesday at 7 p.m. 

DIVISION 2 – HUDSONVILLE UNITY CHRISTIAN 62, ORCHARD VIEW 21

Orchard View: Finishes the season 2-21.

Next up: Unity Christian (11-12) will face Spring Lake (10-10) in the district semifinals in Allendale at 5:30 p.m. 

DIVISION 4 – WALKERVILLE 26, PENTWATER 24

Pentwater: Sam Schaefer 10 points; Mackenna Hasil 6 points. Led 23-16 after three quarters. Finishes the season 8-14 overall. 

Next up: Walkerville (4-18) will face McBain Northern Michigan Christian (9-10) in the district semifinals at Walkerville at 7 p.m.
