Fruitport boys basketball team wraps up the regular season with a 78-51 victory over Muskegon Catholic

Fruitport senior Bode Anspach pumped in 25 points, while adding five assists and five steals, to lead the Trojans to a 78-51 victory over Muskegon Catholic Central on Tuesday their final regular season game.

The Trojans took control right away, outscoring the Crusaders 24-9 in the first quarter. Fruitport led 40-25 at halftime and 57-38 after three quarters, then outscored MCC 21-13 in the final eight minutes.

Anspach had a lot of help in the scoring department. Andrew Spyke tossed in 10 points for Fruitport while Paschal Jolman, Grade Anspach and Day Day Williams each scored nine. Ryan Bosch added eight points and Collin Jolman had six.

Spyke and Bosch, Fruitport’s post players, each grabbed eight rebounds while Paschal Jolman had seven.

“We were able to jump out to the early lead and be aggressive,” said Fruitport Coach Steve Erny, whose team finished the regular season with a 13-9 record. “We had a lot of assists tonight as a team, which was a good sign.

“Bode had a solid all-around game tonight, both finishing at the rim and hitting from the outside. It was a balanced team effort in a lot of ways, with six players scoring eight or more points. This was a good tune-up game as we prepare for the state tournament next week.”

The Trojans will kick off the Division 2 district tournament on Monday at home against Montague at 7 p.m. [2]
