The Fruitport boys basketball team never recovered from a cold start on Friday and fell to Hudsonville Unity Christian 65-34 at home in an O-K Blue conference matchup.
The Trojans only scored 10 points in the first half and trailed 27-10 at halftime. Unity Christian built a 48-25 lead after three quarters then cruised to the win.
Andrew Spyke, Paschal Jolman and Bode Anspach led Fruitport with 10, 8 and 7 points, respectively.
“A cold start for us tonight, combined with Unity playing very well, led to this lopsided score,” said Fruitport Coach Steve Erny. “Now is the time of the year to bounce back quickly and get ready for the tournament.”
[1]It was Senior Night for the Trojans, who honored their four outgoing teammates – Body Anspach, Paschal Jolman, Collin Jolman and Andrew Spyke.
“This is a group that has committed to Fruitport basketball and has seen in their four years a lot of improvement from year-to-year,” Erny said. “We will miss them going forward and wish them the absolute best as they move on to their next adventures.
“This season is not over, though. We are looking forward to competing in districts and laying it all on the line.”
The Trojans, who are 12-9 overall and finished the O-K Blue season with a 7-7 record, will wrap up their regular season with a game at Muskegon Catholic Central on Tuesday. They will compete in Division 2 districts the following week.
