Four Fruitport wrestlers qualified for individual regional competition by finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes at Saturday’s Division 2 individual district tournament at Allendale High School.

Roan Cooper finished second in the 120-pound weight class while Hunter Leonard (157 pounds), Nash Cooper (144 pounds) and Caleb O’Neal (215 pounds) all took third in their respective classes.

All four now advance to Saturday’s Division 2 regional tournament at Byron Center High School, where they will try to finish in the fop four again and qualify for the state finals.

Roan Cooper had the best day for the Trojans, advancing all the way to the 120-pound district championship match.

He reached the title round by pinning Coopersville’s Isaac Dusendang in 5:08 in the semifinals. He was pinned by Wayland Union’s Rex Emmorey in 1:06 in the finals.

Leonard won his third-place match with an 8-2 decision over Allendale’s Owen Schmuker.

Nash Cooper won his third-place match with an exciting 3-1 overtime victory over Hamilton’s Jacob Chase.

O’Neal won his third-place match by pinning Plainwell’s Landon Schuhmacher in 4:06.

Fruitport will return to team competition on Wednesday at Plainwell High School, where the Trojans will face Plainwell at 6 p.m. in a regional semifinal match. The winner will advance to the regional finals later that evening against the winner of the Hamilton-Allendale match.
