The Fruitport wrestling team had a great day on Saturday, posting a 4-1 record and taking second place at the Randy Jacobs Memorial Duals at Montague High School.

The Trojans beat West Ottawa 51-28, Team Rainbow (a compilation of wrestlers from different schools) 63-18, Orchard View (43-29) and Alma (47-24) before falling to powerful Hamilton 43-27.

Three Fruitport wrestlers posted perfect 5-0 records – Kaiden Bell, Davis Johnson and Hunter Leonard.

Fruitport’s Nash Cooper reached the 100-career victory mark on Saturday.

Five Trojans finished 4-1 – Nash Cooper, Roan Cooper, Caleb O’Neal, Andrew Fielstra and Kyle Holt.

“Our team is firing on all cylinders right now,” said Fruitport Coach Chad Johnson. “We wrestled for the team this weekend and the unselfishness from the boys really impressed me. We won four great duals and lost a good dual to a very good Hamilton team.”

Trojan wrestler Nash Cooper had the big moment, pinning Orchard View’s Xander Randall in 1:34 to capture his 100th career victory. He posted a 4-1 record and currently has 101 career wins.

“Nash has been a leader for the past two years,” Coach Johnson said. “He’s a hard worker, he’s passionate about what he does, and he’s always the last guy to leave the room. He has been focused all season on making himself better and holding himself accountable.”
