The Fruitport wrestling team finished fourth overall, and had two individual weight class champions, at Saturday’s Fruitport Legends Invitational.

The Trojans finished with 168.5 points, behind champion Greenville (238 points), Hudsonville (234.5) and Hart (200) in the 16-team tournament.

“I’m proud of the way our team wrestled today,” said Fruitport coach Chad Johnson. “They have had this tournament circled since the beginning of the season. We put a lot of work into building the Legends Invitational back to a solid 16-team tournament and the team responded to the tough competition. The results speak for themselves.”

Fruitport’s Nash Cooper, who won his second straight Legends Tournament title.

Fruitport’s Nash Cooper went 3-0 on the day and won the 144-pound weight class and his second straight title at the Legends tournament. He improved his record to 16-1 on the season.

Fruitport’s Hunter Leonard also went 3-0 and won the 157-pound championship. He now has a 16-2 record.

A lot of other Trojans had good days, as well, including Davis Johnson (second place, 113), Caleb O’Neal (second place, 215), Phillip Stone-Tyler (third place, 105), Kyle Holt (third place, 113), Roan Cooper (third place, 120), Blair Zimmer (fourth place, 138), Trace Pider (fourth place, 165) and Kaiden Bell (fifth place, 285).

“Hunter Leonard had two big wins over ranked opponents, and Nash Cooper wrestled some tough matches, leading him to defending his title from last year,” Coach Johnson said.
