The Fruitport competitive cheer team finished in third place on Wednesday at the first O-K Blue conference competition of the season at Grand Rapids West Catholic High School.
The Trojans had a great first round (execution), coming away with a score of 220.70. They also did well in the second round (overall skills), scoring 192.72, which was their highest point total in that category so far this season.
The third round (stunting) was more difficult for the Trojans, who had a 267.30 score.

Fruitport finished with an overall score of 680.72. West Catholic took first place with a total of 706.92 while Spring Lake was second with a 701.12 mark.
“Although our third round didn’t hit the way we wanted, I’m proud of our team for pushing through and finishing,” said Fruitport coach Saqora Conklin. “All we can do is work harder and come back stronger from this!”
Conklin credited sophomores Dalani Knuppenburg and Tayler Anderson for strong performances in all three rounds.
“They truly put hard work in, on and off the mat,” the coach said. “I’m very proud of their growth this season.”
