There is obviously no quit in the Fruitport boys basketball team.

The Trojans trailed Hudsonville Unity Christian most of the night on Friday in an O-K Blue conference road game, and faced a daunting nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

But Fruitport stormed back in the final eight minutes, outscoring Unity 18-7 to claim an exciting 51-47 victory.

Andrew Spyke led the late comeback with eight points in the fourth quarter.

Spyke finished with 10 points, Paschal Jolman added seven and Grade Anspach and Collin Jolman each scored three.

“This was a big win for our team and our program,” said Fruitport Coach Steve Erny. “To bounce back like this after some tough recent games and beat Unity on the road, it feels really good.

“Bode Anspach played a great all-around game tonight. DayDay Williams was also phenomenal. He’s a freshman who plays much calmer than his age, and he made some huge plays tonight.

“The O-K Blue has been pretty back and forth this year, and to win any game on the road is tough, but especially here at Unity Christian. All the credit goes to our players for having yet another bounce-back and stepping up tonight.”

Fruitport, now 7-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play, will host Comstock Park on Tuesday night.
