Fruitport boys and girls bowling teams post big conference wins over Coopersville

The Fruitport boys bowling team pulled out an exciting win on Wednesday, downing Coopersville 16-14 in an O-K Blue conference match at Ravenna Lanes.

The Trojans gained eight important points in the first regular game. Four points came from winning the game 889-794, then Gage Wadland, Michael Hanson, Zach Durakovic and Jray Conklin added single points by winning their individual matchups.

Fruitport lost the second regular game, but picked up two crucial points when Hanson and Conklin posted individual victories.

The two teams split the baker games at four points apiece, and the Trojans escaped with the narrow win.

The Fruitport boys remain in the thick of the conference championship race with a 5-1 record.

“We have not won at Ravenna Lanes against Coopersville as long as I can remember,” said Fruitport coach Mike Weaver. “The boys had to be patient there and be okay with the scores than the lanes are giving out. Ravenna Lanes can be tricky on certain days.”

The Fruitport girls team also had a big night, beating Coopersville 26-2.

The Trojans have been struggling this season in dual matches due to a lack of players, but both teams had four bowlers on Wednesday and Fruitport showed what it could do.

The Trojans won the first regular game 614-442 with Nanami Hishiro, Raegan Dykstra and Brynna Hanson getting individual wins. They also won the second regular game 532-474 with Hishiro, Dykstra and Hanson winning individual matchups.

Fruitport added eight points to their total by winning both baker games.
