Fruitport’s Bode Anspach had a big night on Friday, turning in 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals to lead the Trojans to an impressive 56-41 victory over Holland Christian in their O-K Blue conference opener.
The Trojans led 17-11 after one quarter, 25-18 at halftime and 38-31 after three quarters before scoring 18 points down the stretch.
Fruitport had a balanced attack, with Ryan Bosch contributing 11 points and eight rebounds, Andrew Spyke adding 10 points and six boards and Paschal Jolman chipping in 10 points.
“Tonight was a nice balanced effort from our guys, with four players in double digits,” said Fruitport coach Steve Erny. “We set the tone on the defensive side of the floor. Holland Christian is a very solid team, as is every team in our league, and we stepped up tonight as a unit and played well. We handled the ball well and had very few turnovers.
“Bode Anspach had a great game, not just scoring the ball but rebounding from his guard position and taking care of the basketball. If he plays that solid and sound, we are that much better of a team. Also our two big guys, Andrew Spyke and Ryan Bosch, played very well. They played with a ton of effort and made big plays throughout the game.
“But I’m really proud of all the guys, especially how we put the game away in the fourth. We were calm and collected and continued to defend and rebound at a high level. The OK Blue schedule can be a grind, but tonight was a great start.”
Fruitport is now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
