The Fruitport girls basketball team struggled on the road against Hudsonville Unity Christian on Friday, falling 48-25.

A rough first half doomed the Trojans. They trailed 15-2 after one quarter and 26-4 at halftime.

Fruitport played better in the second half, only being outscored 11-8 in the third quarter and posting a 13-11 advantage in the fourth.

Ash Olson led Fruitport with nine points while Kadence Springstead added three points and played strong defensively.

“We’re still learning to play as a team,” said Fruitport coach Brian Packard, whose team has lost eight games in a row. “We are recognizing that if we play as a unit we play wall. If we play for ourselves we will struggle.”

Fruitport is now 4-11 overall and 0-7 in O-K Blue conference play.
