A strong second half propelled the Oakridge girls basketball team to its first win of the season Tuesday night, a 48-28 win over Holton.

Oakridge led 6-0 after one quarter, but fell behind 13-12 heading to halftime. It was all Eagles after the break, as Oakridge led 25-17 after three quarters and closed the game with a 23-11 edge in the fourth. 

Destyni Lane led the Eagles with 18 points, eight steals and four rebounds. Kaelinn Jozsa added 14 points, while Anna Lundquist had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds while recording seven steals as well.

Oakridge is now 1-1 overall this season.

Spring Lake beats Montague 45-31

The Lakers started hot with a 13-2 lead after one quarter and never let up. Spring Lake led 21-12 at halftime and 32-17 after three quarters. 

Brooke Bolthouse led the Lakers with 15 points, including three first-quarter threes. Ella Andree scored nine points for the Lakers and Alexa Carter chipped in six points and six rebounds.

Kendall Osbourne led Montague with 13 points on the night and Emma Peterson scored nine.

Ludington wins 49-41 over Benzie Central

The Orioles used a strong defensive effort in the fourth to pull away. Ludington led 16-12 after one quarter 24-20 at halftime and 37-35 after three quarters. A 12-6 edge in the final quarter gave Ludington an eight-point win.

Olivia Lynn and Keelyn Laird scored 10 points each to lead the Orioles. Karli Mayser chipped in nine points. 

Ludington is now 2-1 on the season, including 1-0 in conference play. 

Fremont gets first win with 58-30 victory over Shelby

The Packers dominated the second quarter on their way to picking up their first win of the season Tuesday night. Fremont led 14-6 after one before using a 21-7 edge in the second to lead 35-13 at halftime.

Jessica Bennett scored 12 points to lead the Packers, followed by Mia Clemence with nine, Khaila Noordyk with eight and Lily VandenBerg with seven. 

Molli Schultz had a big night for Shelby, leading all scorers with 20 points. Kendall Zaverl added six points for the Tigers.

Both teams are now 1-2 on the season. 

WMC falls to Calvin Christian, 54-37

Western Michigan Christian trailed 11-8 after one quarter, 29-11 at halftime and 45-29 at the end of the third quarter. 

Tressa Arkema led WMC with 11 points and nine rebounds. Kate Dredowsi added 10 points and Ashley Folkema scored eight. 

Hesperia falls 58-30 against Lakeview

Samy Logana led the Panthers with 11 points, followed by Sky Milner with eight.

Whitehall opens season with 53-43 loss to Grant (Monday)

The Vikings led 10-5 after one quarter, but ultimately fell by 10 in their season opener. Grant led 26-19 at halftime and 40-28 after three quarters.

Lexi Daggett led Whitehall with nine points. Autumn Ferris contributed eight points and seven rebounds, while Hailey Carnes had seven points.

Grant shot 26-31 at the free throw line in the win.
