The Montague boys basketball team rode a strong first half to beat Fruitport 47-39 in non-conference action Tuesday night. 

Montague opened the game with an 18-9 edge in the first quarter. The Wildcats extended the lead to 35-21 at halftime. Fruitport closed to within 41-31 after three and outscored Montague 8-6 in the fourth, but couldn’t come back. 

Isaiah Atchison recorded a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Montague. Owen Raeth had 10 points, six steals and five rebounds for Montague and Braedon Johnston had six points and six rebounds.

Whitehall takes first loss, 81-68 to Sparta

The Vikings fell behind early and weren’t able to come back against the Spartans Tuesday night. Sparta led 23-14 after one quarter, 41-35 at halftime and 59-55 heading to the fourth. A 22-13 edge for Sparta in the fourth put the game away.

Camden Thompson led Whitehall with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kal Koehler added 13 points while Jack Houtteman scored 10 and Nate Bolley tossed in nine.

The Vikings fall to 2-1 overall.

Holton falls 59-20 against Grant

The Red Devils fell behind 14-5 in the first quarter, 39-14 at halftime and 48-16 after three quarters. Brodrick Fialek led Holton with nine points and seven rebounds. Chase Albright grabbed seven boards as well. 

Holton is now 0-3 to start the year.

Muskegon Catholic fades after halftime, falls to Northpointe Christian

The Crusaders battled in the first half and trailed just 36-27 at halftime, but ultimately lost 77-43 Tuesday night.

Braden Gustin led MCC with 18 points, including 11 in the first half. Bryan Convertine added 10 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Crusaders and Jacob Lyonnais finished with six points and eight rebounds.

MCC is now 1-2 on the season.
