The North Muskegon volleyball team won a Division 3 district volleyball championship on Friday by defeating Saugatuck 3-0 in the finals at Fennville High School.

The set scores were 23-15, 25-21, 25-18.

The district title came one year after the Norse lost a hard-fought battle to Western Michigan Christian in the district finals.

WMC went on to advance all the way to the state final four last season, but North Muskegon beat the Warriors in the district semifinals this week before downing Saugatuck in the finals.

“We’ve had our eyes on this district title all season,” said North Muskegon Coach Kammi Eacker. “After losing in the finals last year we knew we were going to come out on a tear this year, and we’ve been very focused on avenging that loss, and on what’s to come even deeper in the postseason.

“We came ready to handle business tonight and we did just that.”

Eacker credited several players for strong performances on Friday, including Joslynne Bogner, Natalie Pannucci, Allie Jensen and Fia Lindsay on offense, Sami Baker with assists, and Jolie Fellows, Jaley Schultz and Lauren Dahlquist on defense.

The Norse now advance to play in regionals at Holton High School on Tuesday.

The Norse pose with their fellow students who made the trip to the match in Fennville.
