Mona Shores will play for a conference tournament championship next week after an exciting win over Zeeland West Tuesday. The Sailors took a back-and-forth O-K Green semifinal match in five sets.

Mona Shores won the first set 27-25 before the Dux won 25-23 in the second. The Sailors dominated the third set 25-8 before Zeeland West rallied to win 25-21 in set four. The fifth and decided set went to the Sailors by a score of 17-15. 

Ava Dunn had 18 kills to lead Mona Shores, followed by Jersey VanderWall with 10. Kyann Hellmann had 40 assists to facilitate the offense.

Izzy Sturtevant had 47 digs to lead the Sailors and Hellmann had 21. VanderWall had eight blocks and Dunn chipped in six. 

Mona Shores is now 23-9 on the season and 7-2 in the O-K Green. The Sailors will face Zeeland East in the conference tournament finals. 

Kent City continues strong season

The Kent City volleyball team came out on top in a matchup with Central Montcalm Tuesday night, winning by scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-18.

Leading the Eagles’ attack was Lexie Bowers, who had 13 kills on the night. Maddie Geers added 11 kills, Susan-Joy Rau had two aces and Jacee Hoffman totaled 32 assists. 

On defense, Kaden Perkins led the team with 16 digs followed by Geers with 15 and Bowers with 14. 

Kent City improves to 27-4-2 overall and is 9-0 in conference play.

Trojans fall to Allendale

The Fruitport volleyball team fell in their second game of the OK-Blue tournament to Allendale Tuesday night, dropping their sets 25-17 25-19 25-15.

Leading the Trojans was Sadie Haase with seven kills and two blocks, while Auebre Johnson had 6 kills and Gracelynn Olson had two blocks, two aces and 19 assists. Lauren Reidel and Kayla Kolberg led the defense with 14 and 13 digs respectively. 

Fruitport will face Spring Lake in the final round of the O-K Blue tournament consolation bracket next week. 

Rockets lose in O-K Green semis

Reeths-Puffer fell to Zeeland East in the semifinals of the O-K Green volleyball tournament Tuesday night. Zeeland East won in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-20. 

Sophia Hekkema, Madisyn Dykema and Billie Tryska had three kills each to lead the Rockets. Megan Barmes led the team with four digs. Sophia Corradin and Lauren Nelson had three digs each. Tryska had four blocks to lead the team.

Reeths-Puffer is now 14-18-2 on the season. 

Norse sweep Wildcats

North Muskegon swept Montague in a West Michigan Conference crossover match Tuesday night. The Norse won by scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-21.

Natalie Pannucci led the Norse attack with 16 kills, followed by Fia Lindsay with nine. Same Baker had 32 assists to lead the team, while Bella Picard had four aces. 

Jaley Schultz had 16 digs to lead North Muskegon, followed by Baker with 12 and Pannucci with 10. 

Montague’s Laura Borras totaled 12 kills and 11 digs. Alissa Wynn led the team with 12 digs and Anastasia Trevino had 10 kills.

North Muskegon is now 17-11-4 on the season and Montague is 18-22-1.

Ludington sweeps Whitehall in WMC action

The Whitehall volleyball team dropped a West Michigan Conference Lakes division match against Ludington Tuesday night. Ludington won by scores of 25-22, 25-8 and 27-25. 

Chase Baker led Whitehall defensively with 20 digs, followed by Arianna Black with 15. Black and Kayle Mulder led the team in kills with nine each. Sydney Shepherd posted 30 assists for the Vikings.

Whitehall falls to 14-17-5 overall and 4-2 in league play. 

Spring Lake falls to Hamilton

Spring Lake fell against Hamilton in the consolation bracket of the O-K Blue tournament Tuesday night. The Lakers won the first set 25-18 before Hamilton came back to win by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19. 

Kalli Lewkowski led the Lakers with 12 kills, while Ella Andree and Anna Fumarolo each had eight. Avery Britt contributed a team-high 16 assists.

On defense, Brooke Bolthouse and Andree led the Lakers counter-effort with 19 and 18 digs, respectively.

Spring Lake falls to 20-14 overall and 1-8 in the OK-Blue Conference.

Crusaders fall in five sets

Muskegon Catholic Central took the first two sets of a match with Zion Christian Tuesday, but couldn’t hang on and lost in five sets. The Crusaders won 25-16 and 25-17 in the first two sets before Zion Christian won the final three sets 25-15, 25-22 and 15-9. 

Claire LaVigne, Aubrey Shepherd and Ella Muskovin each served up eight aces for MCC. Natalie Rich led the team with eight kills, while LaVigne had a team-high 15 assists.

Shepherd led the team with 11 digs, followed by LaVigne with eight and Elana LaGuire with seven. 

Muskegon Catholic Central is now 9-12 on the season, including 3-4 in conference play.

Oakridge wins tight battle with Fremont

The Oakridge volleyball team came out victorious in a hard-fought match with Fremont Tuesday night. Oakridge won by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 26-24 and 30-29. 

Madison Babinec led the Eagles with 12 kills, followed by Kaelinn Jozsa with seven and Haley Seewald with six. Kylee Willea served six aces, while Seewald had five and Gracie Willea had three.

Shelby sweepts Hart

Shelby picked up a straight-sets win over rival Hart Tuesday night. The Tigers won by set scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-9. 

Mya Chickering and Mariana VanAgtmael both had 13 digs for Hart, followed by Makayla Rockwall with five. Addi Hovey led the offense with eight kills, while Rockwall had five assists.
The Pirates are now 23-7-5 overall this season and 4-2 in the West Michigan Conference Rivers division. 

Holton sweeps Mason County

The Mason County Central volleyball team fell to Holton in three sets Tuesday night. The Red Devils won by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16.

Leading the Spartans was Tori Dunblazier and Wren Nelson, who both had four kills and two aces. Charlie Banks and Mikaylah McVicker both led the Spartan defense with five digs apiece.

The Spartans fall to 13-17-1 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
