The Grand Haven volleyball team defeated Grandville in three sets on Thursday night, winning 25-20, 25-19 and 25-18.
Jillian Swierbut and Izzy Whittkaer each had 10 kills to lead the Bucs while Kam Burbridge added nine kills of her own.
Leah Montgomery had a strong night, totaling 38 assists while Taylor Smaka finished with 19 digs.
Grand haven is now 21-15 on the season.
Muskegon Catholic battles hard but falls
The Crusaders volleyball battled Wednesday night against Tri-Unity falling in four sets with the scores being 24-26, 25-11, 25-21, and 25-22.
Muskegon Catholic was led on offense by Claire LaVigne with 21 assists and six aces. Natalie Rich added eight kills while Claire Carlton added seven kills.
On defense, the Crusaders were led by Rich with 14 digs. Elana LaGuire added eight digs while Ella Muskovin added six digs.
Muskegon Catholic falls to 7-11 and 3-3 in conference. Muskegon Catholic’s next match is Saturday GMAA Tier 2 at 10:00 against Muskegon.
Hart makes easy work of Newaygo
The Pirates of Hart were on a mission Wednesday night taking down Newaygo 8-0 to cruise through their first-round district matchup.
Guillermo Ortega led the Pirates with 4 goals and 2 assists. Bryce Jorissen, Adan Cruz, and Adrian Belmares added a goal each. Tony Rayo and Tyler Larios-Mendez chipped in with two assists each.
The Hart defense did not allow a single shot on target all game so keeper Kyan Clark kept the clean sheet.
The Pirates now move 12-6-2. Hart will now play next Monday at home against Montague at 4:30.
Spring Lake volleyball falls
The Lakers volleyball team knew they were in for a challenge Wednesday night taking on two Division 1 state-ranked teams in Zeeland West and South Christian. The Lakers fell to Zeeland West 17-25 and 15-25 and fell to South Christian 20-25 and 7-25.
Spring Lake was led by Kalli Lewkowski offensively with nine kills, Ella Andree with five kills, and Anna Fumarolo with four kills as well.
Brooke Bolthouse led the Lakers on the night with 12 digs. Lewkowski had eight digs and Rylee Sabo had five digs.
Spring Lake is now 20-13-3 on the season.
Mason County Central takes down Mason County Eastern
Mason County Central volleyball was on the mark Wednesday night as they took down Mason County Eastern in three sets with the scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-9.
The Spartans were led on offense by Tori Dunblazier with 10 kills and three aces. Alayna Rafter added 16 assists.
On defense, the Spartans were led by Maxi Green with seven digs. Dunblazier added five digs while Ashlyn McKay added five digs.
Mason County Central will play next Tuesday at Holton at 6:30.
Western Michigan Christian falls to Covenant Christian
The Western Michigan Christian volleyball team fell 25-20, 25-20 and 25-16 to Grand Rapids Covenant Christian on Thursday night.
Kendal Young led the Warrior attack with 23 assists while Abby Leffring finished with 10 kills.
