Freye’s penalty kick goal with under a minute left gives Mona Shores soccer a dramatic 3-2 win over Holland

Mona Shores’ Kaden Pulaski was pulled down on a breakaway with 50 seconds left in a tied game on Thursday, resulting in a penalty kick.

Abe Freye took the kick and buried it, giving the Sailors a thrilling 3-2 victory over Holland in the semifinal round of the O-K Green conference tournament.

Mona Shores, now 13-1-3, will host Grand Rapids Union on Tuesday in the tournament championship game.

The Sailors trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Antonio Lewis tied the game for Mona Shores with a goal about 10 minutes into the second half, with an assist from Pulaski.

Easton Lopez added a goal for Shores about 10 minutes later, with an assist from Lewis, to put the Sailors up 2-1.

Holland tied the game again before Frye’s dramatic penalty kick goal settled the issue.

The Sailors outshot the Dutch 12-11. Dylan Brady got the win in goal for Mona Shores with nine saves.

Tommy Hylland, Louis Rimbault, Gavyn Stout, Maclain Vandenberg and Vincenzo Padilla were credited with playing solid defense for the Sailors. [2]
