The Muskegon Big Reds started their 2022 playoff drive with a loud bang on Friday, pounding Sparta 64-9 in a Division 3 pre-district game at Hackley Stadium.
The Big Reds took control early with three first quarter scores – a one-yard touchdown plunge from Jakob Price, a scoop-and-score fumble recovery by Terrance Davis and a 57-yard scoring scamper by Price.
Sparta got its points in the second quarter with a safety and a one-yard touchdown run by Nichlos Gordon. The Big Reds then answered with three passing touchdowns to take a 42-9 halftime lead.
Quarterback M’Khi Guy threw a 29-yard scoring strike to Decarion Taylor, a 10-yard touchdown pass to Alyjuuan Paris and a 40-yard TD toss Taylor.

Muskegon added 15 points in the third quarter when CJ Ivy returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and Destin Piggee returned a punt 54 yards for another score.
The Big Reds’ final score came in the fourth quarter when Wanyai Johnson scored on a one-yard run.
Guy completed all five of his passes for 74 yards and three touchdowns. Price finished with 95 yards on five carries with two touchdowns.
Taylor led the receivers with his two TD catches totaling 69 yards.
Adrian Rankin had seven tackles for the Big Reds while Kingston Blackmon and Darekeo Speech each had six.
Julian Neely, Princeton Blackmon and Keon Drummer each had an interception. Davis and Stanley Cunningham had fumble recoveries, while Ivy broke up three Sparta passes.
The Big Reds (8-2) will host Coopersville (7-3) next week in the district finals. [2]
