The Ravenna football team scored early and often on Friday night, leading to a 62-30 win over Hesperia in a West Michigan Conference game.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter, then added five second quarter touchdowns to increase their advantage to a 56-0 margin.

Hesperia battled back, scoring eight points in the third quarter and 22 in the fourth, but failed to overcome the large deficit.

Ravenna scored in the opening quarter on a four-yard run by Nathan Kooiman, a 47-yard pass from Hunter Hogan to Drew Mabrito and a pick-six by Nash Hoffman.

The Bulldogs continued their attack in the second quarter from the ground as Mabrito (58-yards and 22-yards) and Hogan (32-yards and 25-yards) each scored two rushing touchdowns, while Kooiman added his second of the game from two yards out.

Ravenna scored its final touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter on a 63-yard kick return.

Hogan was 5-of-7 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 82 yards on five carries and two scores.

Mabrito added 80 yards rushing and two touchdowns on two carries, and Kooiman scored twice on four attempts for 35 yards.

The Bulldogs were led in receiving yards by Mabrito with 62 yards on two catches while Derek Finley caught two passes for 34 yards.

Hogan led the Ravenna defense with four tackles.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in league play and will travel to play North Muskegon in a critical conference matchup next Friday.

Hesperia falls to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference competition. The Panthers will look for their first league win next Friday when they play Mason County Central.
