Ludington rallies from a two-touchdown deficit to beat Montague 34-14 in West Michigan Conference clash

The Ludington football team overcame a 14-point halftime deficit and rallied to beat Montague 34-14 at home on Friday in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division matchup.

Montague grabbed a 14-0 lead after one quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass by Eli Peterson to Izak Jarka and a four-yard touchdown run by Adam Baird.

The second quarter was scoreless, then the Orioles took flight, scoring 34 straight points.

Ludington’s Trey Forfinski had a 53-yard fumble return for a touchdown less than two minutes into the second half, and the PAT made the score 14-7.

Forfinski added a three-yard scoring run with eight minutes left in the third quarter, tying the score 14-14, then quarterback Chase Hackert hit Aidan Gilchrist with a 49 yard TD pass with 5:27 remaining, and the extra point put Ludington up 21-14.

Forfinski added a two-yard touchdown run with two minutes left in the third, then Hackert pounded in to the end zone with 1:44 remaining in the game to compete the scoring.

Hackert completed 8 of 22 throws for 110 yards and one touchdown. Forfinski rushed 19 times for 72 yards and scored twice.

Gage Jones led the Oriole defense with 10 tackles, while Forfinski and Levi Laman added five apiece.

Eli Peterson completed 14 of 30 passes for Montague for 184 yards and one touchdown. Baird had 16 carries for 63 yards.

Jarka caught six passes for 63 yards and one score while Paul Olson had three receptions for 53 yards.

Michael Moore and Baird had seven and four tackles for the Wildcats, respectively.

Ludington, now 4-1, will host Manistee next week. Montague, 2-3, will host North Muskegon. [1]
