Weekend volleyball roundup: Spring Lake wins WMVOA bronze bracket, Fremont goes 4-2

The Spring Lake volleyball team took home the championship in the bronze bracket of the West Michigan Volleyball Officials Association tournament Friday. 

Spring Lake went 0-1-2 in pool play, losing to Allendale and drawing against Hopkins and Northview. The Lakers then beat Grant, Paw Paw and Hopkins in tournament play to take the crown in the bronze bracket.

Kalli Lewkowski had 34 digs and 32 kills to lead the Lakers, while Anna Fumarolo had 19 kills and 13 blocks. Brooke Bolthouse had 43 digs, Ella Andree had 34 digs and 15 kills.

Spring Lake is 5-1-2 on the season after the WMVOA. 

Kent City goes 3-1 at WMVOA

The Eagles were a perfect 3-0 in pool play at the West Michigan Volleyball Officials Association tournament Friday before losing their first match in bracket play. Kent City beat Paw Paw, Northpointe Christian and Thornaple Kellogg before losing to Northview.

Lexie Bowers led the team with 23 kills and added 35 digs. Madelyn Geers had 44 digs and 21 kills, while Susan Rau had 14 kills and seven blocks. 

Kent City is now 4-2 on the season. 

Fremont goes 4-2 Friday

The Packers went 4-2 and finished third place in its Dig Volleyball Invitational Friday. Fremont’s Carle Bruggema brought her career ace total to 262 during the event, a school record.

Kendall Barnhart had 37 kills and 27 aces to lead Fremont. Sage Vandenberg had 36 kills, 15 aces and eight blocks. Avery Christofferson had 33 digs, Lily Vandenberg had 57 assists and Baylah Parker had 25 digs. 

Montague goes 1-3 at invitational 

The Montague Wildcats went 1-3 at an invitational Friday, beating Oakridge and losing to Reeths-Puffer, Holland Christian and Byron Center.

Anastasia Trevino had 33 kills and five blocks, while Britta Johnson had 24 kills and 24 digs. Jacy Arrigotti led the team with 35 digs and added six aces. Alissa Wynn had 31 digs and nine aces.

Muskegon Catholic Central goes 2-2

The Crusader volleyball team beat Crossroads Academy and Wyoming Lee Friday, but lost two matches to Tri Unity Christian. 

Clare LaVigne had 31 assists, 14 aces, 12 kills and 10 digs on the day. Elaina LaGuire had 14 digs, while Natalie Rich had 11 aces, 10 kills and eight digs. 

WMC goes 1-2

Western Michigan Christian beat Ravenna and lost to Hesperia and Shelby over the weekend. Abby Leffring had 21 kills on the day to lead the team. Kendal Young had 53 assists on the day.

North Muskegon goes 1-1-3 Friday, 1-2 Saturday

North Muskegon’s volleyball team had a win, three ties and a loss Friday before picking up a win and two losses Saturday.

Friday’s action saw a win over Grand Rapids Covenant Christian, a loss to Allendale and ties with Pewamo-Westphalia, West Ottawa and Cedar Springs in two-set matches. 

Natalie Pannucci had 42 kills, 34 digs and five aces. Allie Jensen had 29 kills and five aces, Jolie Fellows had 29 digs and Sami Baker had 78 assists and 26 digs.

Saturday saw another win against GRCC and losses to Kalamazoo Christian and Northpointe Christian. 

Pannucci had 28 kills and 26 digs, Baker had 43 assists and 15 digs and Fia Lindsay had nine kills.
