The Spring Lake volleyball team posted a perfect 3-0 record at the Zeeland East quad on Monday.

The Lakers defeated Western Michigan Christian 25-18, 25-23; Zeeland East 20-25, 25-23, 15-10; and Montague 25-21, 21-25, 15-13.

Kalli Lewkowski led the Lakers attack with 34 kills, while both Rylee Sabo and Kara Constantine added 32 assists. Ella Gapczynski also added 7 aces to round out the night.

Defensively, Brooke Bolthouse led the Lakers with 34 digs, while Lewkowski also added 15 of her own.

Fremont tops WMC in finals of invitational (Saturday)

The Packers avenged a loss from earlier in the day to take down Western Michigan Christian in Fremont’s invitational Saturday. Fremont won the finals of the tournament in two sets, 25-20 and 26-24.

WMC went 5-0 in pool play before beating Plainwell in the semifinals. The Warriors won all 12 sets they played prior to the finals. Fremont earned the No. 2 seed for bracket play behind WMC and beat Hesperia in the semifinals.

Sage Vandenberg had 35 kills and four blocks for Fremont. Avery Christoffersen led the team with 48 digs and chipped in 10 aces. Dendall Barnhart had 40 digs, 25 kills and 12 aces, while Carle Bruggema had 102 assists and 23 digs.

Abby Leffring totaled 61 kills for the day. Kendal Young had 130 assists for the Warriors. Ashley Folkema had eight kills in the semifinal win against Plainwell, then added seven against Fremont.

Kent City goes 1-1-2 at tournament (Saturday)

Kent City traveled to Reed City for a tournament over the weekend and went 1-1-2. The Eagles beat Shepherd, tied Petoskey and lost to Lansing Catholic twice. 

Madelyn Geers led the team with 27 digs, 20 kills and four blocks. Lexie Bowers added 21 digs and 19 kills, while Kaden Perkins had 23 digs.

Jacee Hoffman had 67 assists and 20 digs. Susan-Joy Rau had a team high five aces to go with 18 kills.
