Ravenna loses a big halftime lead, falls to Beal City 22-21 in a turnaround of last year’s opener

Last year the Ravenna football team opened the season with a thrilling 21-21 victory over an always-powerful Beal City squad.

On Friday night the tables were turned, with Beal City roaring back to take a 21-20 victory over the Bulldogs.

Quarterback Hunter Hogan ran for two touchdowns in the first half and Drew Mabrito scored once, helping Ravenna take a 21-0 halftime lead.

But the Bulldogs were outscored 22-0 over the final 13:38 of the game and lost by a point.

Hogan had a good game, rushing for 91 yards on 19 carries with the two scores. He also completed 7 of 15 passes for 113 yards.

Chase Thomas, Drew Mabrito and Blake Homoly each caught two passes for Ravenna.

Defensively, Nathan Kooiman paced the Bulldogs with six tackles, Hogan had five, Carter Schullo added four and Derek Finlay registered 3.5.

Ravenna will host Montague next week in a West Michigan Conference crossover game. [1]
